Clos Apalta 2022 - 99 points James Suckling
Clos Apalta is a Bordeaux-style blend and is one of Chile’s most iconic and critically acclaimed red wines. Produced by the Clos Apalta Winery in the Apalta Valley (Colchagua Valley), it showcases the region's potential to produce complex, age-worthy wines with deep character. The wine is Carménère-dominant, and is the highest rated Carmenere dominant wine in the world.
James Suckling - 99 Points
The carmenere character is more obvious and confidently transparent this year, but in a really complex and layered way. Cedar, black olives, graphite, paprika and hints of pepper and iodine. It’s well rounded, with a light sanguine note to the ripe fruit. The tannins are fine-grained yet polished. The lengthy finish doesn't want to stop. 68% carmenere, 22% cabernet sauvignon and 10% merlot. Drink from 2027.
Wine Spectator - 95 Points
A graceful and understated red that appeals without rhapsody, offering layered aromas of dried herbs, mushroom powder, gravel and apple wood, while the palate is nuanced, with olive-accented blackberry and plum flavors. Gains subtle richness toward the finish, while the core flavors linger, supported by hints of baking spices around fine, integrated tannins. Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2040.
