Petit Clos 2022 - 96 points James Suckling
Le Petit Clos is the second wine from Clos Apalta, designed to reflect the same terroir and craftsmanship of the estate’s flagship wine but in a more approachable, earlier-drinking style. While it carries the DNA of its prestigious sibling, as it is a barrel selection, it is crafted with slightly different priorities giving it a more accessible structure early on.
James Suckling - 96 Points
A deep, complex nose with multiple layers of graphite, dark olives, blackberries and dark chocolate. Really fine-grained, powdery tannins with ripe and juicy fruit. A touch of pepper at the end, followed by a lengthy finish. Fresh and slightly opulent. 59% carmenere, 33% cabernet sauvignon, 5% merlot and 3% petit verdot. Drink or hold.
Wine Spectator - 92 Points
A well-proportioned red, with spice and floral notes paving the way for a pure blackberry and plum center, plus glints of cassis and cedar on the fringes. The finish is mouthwatering, with hints of tea leaf and fine tannins. Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2036.
